About Me

Dr. Sharon A Deacon, Ph.D.

NYS Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Clinical Director

I have dedicated my life’s work to healing, strengthening, and enriching marriages and families. In the beginning, God
created man, then gave him woman, and that marriage multiplied into families. I still believe that the solution to most
individual and societal problems resides in strengthening those God-created relationships. I believe that mental and
emotional health for every individual is founded upon an intimate, safe, consistent, dependable connection with God
above and those they call “family” on Earth. Strong marriages support strong families, and strong families nurture
resilient, healthy individuals. I am in the business of guiding people back to the beginning in order to improve their
future.

I graduated from SUNY at Fredonia with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology; received my Masters Degree in Marriage
and Family Therapy from Purdue Northwestern; and achieved my Doctorate in Child and Family Development, with a
Specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from Purdue University. I have Level 2 training in the Gottman method
of couples therapy, and received my professional training from some of the top marriage and family therapists and
researchers in the world. I educate, train, and supervise new counselors and have taught psychology and mental health
courses at various universities in the U.S. In addition to my formal education, skills, and passions, what qualifies me is
practicing what I preach in my own marriage of 26 years and the daily experience of raising our four children.
I firmly believe that counselors cannot take clients farther on the growth journey than they have gone themselves. I
continue to qualify myself by seeking growth and development on my own personal journey through the experiences and
opportunities God lays before me.

The world spends a lot of time telling us who we are, who we should be, and what our value is. But God tells us not to
conform to the ways of the world, but to be a new person by allowing our minds to be transformed to know God’s perfect
plan and purpose for our lives. Therapy is a unique sanctuary from the world, where people can find safety to shed their
masks and be transparent, dismiss worldly approval, transform their thinking, and discover their true identity and worth.
That process translates into changed behaviors, healed and healthier relationships, and service to God and others. God has
given people the gift of counsel as a means to bring Him glory and I am committed to invest my gift to the best of my
ability.

I love the arts because they help me to get lost in time, forget my stressors, and release my creativity. In my free time, I
love to go on photography adventures, design digital artwork, create family scrapbooks, paint, and make crafts. I enjoy
family hikes by water (just the sound of it relaxes me), game nights (I love to win!), travelling (there are so many amazing
places to see!), and cooking good food (Mexican, Italian, Polish, Asian- I love it all!). But the one thing I have found that
re-charges my spirit better than anything else is laughter– and God has blessed me with a father, husband, best friend, and
children that have filled my life with that prescription daily!

One of my life’s goals is to bake the perfect chocolate chip cookie- super thick and fluffy, golden crispy on the outside,
gooey chocolaty goodness on the inside, melt in your mouth perfection.

Accept the way God does things, for who can straighten what he has made crooked? (Ecc. 7:13) A lesson in submission,
this perfectionist continues to learn!
